Kohl and the Gang
Meet Kohler Henson Chrestman. He goes by Kohl. He loves frogs, kicking his legs and all kinds of music, mainly alternative rock and electronic dance music ("EDM" to the kids). His biggest fans are his mom, his dad and baby sister, Amelia. On January 12, 2012, he was deprived of bloog and oxygent to his brain for a period of time and, as a result, sustained a brain injury, resulting in global damage.
Kohl spent his first month in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and, despite implications that he would not make it out due to the severity of his brain injury, he came through and went home. That was the first time he defied the odds. It wouldn't be the last. His challenges are many, and his days are filled with doctor's appointments, therapy sessions and more surgeries and hospital stays than anyone should have to deal with over a lifetime. But through it all, he continues to amaze.
The medical term for what happened to Kohl is hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy or "HIE." The Hope for HIE organization is filled with parents and others who love kids just like Kohl. It has been a consistent source of information and support for Kohl's parents. The organization's motto is "hope is in the journey." Those words have helped us in our own journey to peer through the mask of Kohl's disabilities and see the true beauty of life.
The organization has helped us immensely, and we hope you'll consider making a donation so that it can continue to help families like us and kids like Kohl.
